Assignment 5 Cate Clay

Put simply, I watch television to escape. I watch it to get away from stressors created by school, friends, or family. In watching all of my favorite TV shows, I truly get to know each character's personality and the problems they face. When watching, I feel as if I am a part of their world. I do not watch TV for mindless entertainment, but rather for dedicating my brain power to something that's outside my usual routine. Instead of focusing on a school assignment, for forty minutes or so, my mind is on the plot of this episode.
My favorite TV shows are One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, and New Girl. A high school drama, medical drama, and comedic sitcom respectively. Although different in their focus, all three shows introduced me to new characters, each with their own unique charisma. I don't usually watch nonfiction television, like documentaries, not because I don't find it interesting, but because it doesn't serve the role I assign TV shows with. Without made-up characters and plots, I can't really feel like I'm transported to another world when watching.
