Assignment 5- Katie Demos

TV has never been a huge part of my life. I'll watch a show on Netflix here and there, and sometimes my Mom has the morning news playing, but I honestly don't have much of an opinion on it. I know there are very polarized opinions of TV out there, especially as suggested in the premise of this prompt. I don't "love" or "hate" television. It's just not something I've ever been associated with very deeply.
As I've said, since I don't typically watch TV, I don't really know how it exploits or favors certain programs or topics over others. However, pertaining to media in general, the bias is very evident, and as one who partakes in reading newspapers, I see it constantly. But truly, isn't that the purpose of any media? To give an audience what it desires and wants?
I see no issue in promoting a story about the Kardashians over nobel prize winners. If someone has a problem with it, they must take the initiative to seek out what they want to see. The public's interest is forever changing. Just because the interest is in pop culture instead of academic awards doesn't mean that it should be altered just to suit a smaller minority. Society's tastes are forever changing with the passing of time, and although my or someone else's personal opinion doesn't correlate with it does not mean that it should be changed.
Democracy is what we want. There should be no limit on that in the respect of public media that is available primarily to suit general need.
