Assignment 6 Cate Clay

Right now, I would say that neuroscience is the subject that interests me most. This interest was sparked last year, when I took AP Psychology. We studied the structures of the brain and each of their corresponding functions. Some of my classmates found the forced memorization of these brain structures to be boring and tedious.  The experience was not the same for me. Each new thing I learned about the brain made me want to learn more. Before taking this class, I knew I sought a career in the medical field, but I didn't know any specifics past that. Now, I know that I want to do work that involves neuroscience.
Neuroscience directly involves everything we do. That's what makes it so interesting to study. Any aspect of neuroscience can be related to our lives. I love gaining new knowledge about parts or functions of the brain that can be used to explain why people do the things that they do.
Not only is the study of neuroscience intriguing, it can be used to help others, as mental health is such a prominent problem among society today. I have witnessed mental illness affect people's lives firsthand and have become passionate about the issue. I hope to learn much more about neuroscience in college and graduate school and use this knowledge to better the lives of those suffering from mental illnesses, whether it be through research, neurosurgery, or counseling.
