Watching TV? Not on my list of past times.
I haven’t always had this mindset. In 8th grade, I watched six seasons of Glee and six seasons of Parks and Recreation on Netflix. That’s 121 episodes of Glee, accounting for about 87 hours, and 112 episodes of Parks and Rec accounting for about 40 hours. Where did I get this time? I have no idea, especially since I was captain of the dance team, involved in volleyball, on the track team and a soccer team, in the school orchestra, and, obviously, a student.
It could just be that middle school is easier, but I do think that I could have spent that time invested in my other activities. There’s always more studying to be done, always more training. But instead, I sat in my room alone and stared at a tiny, lit screen for hours on end.
So why don’t I watch TV? I think it takes away from the quality of life. Now, when I have time, I love to paint, serve the community, lay in a hammock, go running, hiking, stargazing. These activities offer experiences and are much more rewarding than just sitting on the couch.
