Assignment 9 - Julia Meadors

If there is an option between fighting a war and peacefully settling an issue, nobody in their right mind would choose war. Why would you choose to send thousands of the strongest, smartest, and bravest young men and women in your country to their deaths in order to solve a problem that could be resolved through communication and negotiation? War not only costs millions of dollars, it also has a huge cost of human lives from both sides. Soldiers are sent into battle, ripping countless families apart. From mothers losing their children and husbands leaving their wives, the impact of each death is unimaginable, all because two countries couldn’t negotiate.

Though I do realize that some issues can’t be solved through a simple negation. If a country is being threatened or attacked, they can’t always sit down and talk through the issue. Due to this, I feel that war should only be used as a last resort. Sometimes it could be better for a few people to die in order to save countless others. But if it is at all possible to resolve an issue before fighting, countries should always try to take that route first.
