Assignment 13 - Lindsey Angel

I am deeply saddened to say that this past October ninth, Lexington - I'm disgusted to say this appalling city is my hometown - failed to celebrate Columbus Day, and instead declared my dear Christopher's day "Indigenous People's Day". What did native American's ever do for America? I wouldn't even be writing this blog post right now from the comfort of my Kentuckian home if Christopher Columbus hadn't discovered our beautiful country. Seriously, what did the natives ever do for us? It's not like they were essentially responsible for the survival and success of one of America's first colonies or anything like that? And so what, if Columbus brutally killed, enslaved, and forcibly converted native Americans. He discovered America, and we should exalt him for it, not strip him of his legacy! Even if the Vikings technically set foot on our dearest America long before Columbus did, Columbus is the reason that civilized Europeans - not those blundering buffoons - settled North and South America. Columbus deserves his day, and if the leaders of Lexington had any sense they would realize that.
