Chris Beebout Assignment 23

Lately, I’ve found myself unmotivated by all but necessity and sleep. Needless to say, this degenerate attitude of mine has led me to some bitter ends, which usually involve me finishing (“finishing”) my calc homework at lunch instead of any other golden opportunity within the past 24 hours. So, this playlist will be my spark and my impetus.

Song 1: Carolus Rex by Sabaton- relates in heavy metal the story and mindset of King Charles XII of Sweden, that country’s most successful (and vicious) ruler. Will serve to whip my inner arrogance into a wrathful frenzy, dashing any apprehension in my psyche.

Song 2: Rex Duodecim Angelus by Malcolm Brown- The second song provides a dark contrast to the first, and reminds me of my own mortality. It hails from a webcomic that I believe I have mentioned before, and casts a vivid frieze of a climactic battle between 12 warriors and one king. Seeing as how Carolus Rex cast me in the role of a king, this song both provides evidence of my strength at times, but also keeps me humble and cautious as the king’s reign of terror draws to a headless close. In addition, I play this song on the piano, so it reminds me of those enjoyable experiences.

Song 3: Guren no Yumiya by Linked Horizon- With the death my kingly arrogance, I must now focus on the strengths that dwell deeper within me. This song comes from the opening of the popular anime Attack on Titan, which, while sorely lacking in plot, does much to inspire courage and tenacity in the hearts of the feeble. By reflecting on humanity’s bloody struggle against the nigh-invincible Titans, I recall that even when brought low, I am still capable of immense destruction among my foes.

Song 4: Dance of Thorns by Joren de Bruin- Yet another timeless classic from Homestuck, this lyric-less piece focuses less on idealism and the reasoning behind fighting down to the fighting itself. As the rapid violin and electric guitar clash I resolve to not only meditate on why I work, but also on the logistics of how and when.

Song 5: “Ultimate Battle (Ultra Instinct Theme)” by Akira Kushida- I really don’t have time to watch the entirety of Dragon Ball, but this song got me into the latest story arc. It plays when the main character, Son Goku, is pushed to his breaking point during an emotionally-pitched fight for his universe and attains a near-untouchable state called Ultra Instinct, which he uses to defeat those few who can actually rival his strength otherwise. It inspires me to end my music break and push onwards, not letting any of my concerns shake my resolve. I also play this song on piano, reminding me of more happy memories.

And thus, setting all melodrama aside, I get to work.
