Assignment 19 - Will Graves

Throughout my life I have received advice from many different people and perspectives, which has taught me some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned. Some more than others have really impacted me as a person, one of which was the idea that, “if you never tell a lie, you never have to remember what you said.” At first this phrase confused me but as I have grown older I have seen I have seen the true value of this. In other words you just have to remember what happened, but if you change your story then you have to remember what happened as well as what you said happened. There’s no mental movie to accompany what you said happened, in fact that movie that replays in your memory is likely to impede your ability to remember the fictional story you told. Sometimes the consequences are dire or other times it can just be embarrassing. But the bottom line is that there’s nothing worse than getting caught in a lie.
