Hey! I'm Katie Demos, a.k.a. that one music nerd that's always practicing. That's the first thing to know about me, and definitely the thing that "geeks me out" the most. I play flute in band, but that's not exactly where my love for music lies. My dream is to be an orchestral conductor, a career where I'd be able to create and listen music to the music I love every day. As I write this, I'm actually listening to Schubert's "Symphony no. 8- Unfinished." Definitely recommend it. I want to be one of the greats, and I aspire to go to an international level conservatory(Oberlin and McGill are my favorites) or music school(Indiana or Eastman!).
Other than my obsession with music and trying to be a national level flautist, I'm a figure skater. Skating has been a passion of mine for about 4 years now, and my main goal is to achieve a gold medal in my moves in the field USFS figure skating tests. If I have a gold medal in moves, I'll be able to teach professionally.
Although skating and music have shaped me most as a person, this summer really changed my life as well. I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Greece, where I met some of my cousins whom I had only ever looked at in photographs or written letters to. Immersing myself into my Greek culture really broadened my worldview and I STRONGLY encourage everyone to explore Europe at some point.
That’s the basics of me as a person. I’ve attached a video of my favorite orchestra performing my favorite orchestra piece(Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune by Claude Debussy, performed by The London Symphony Orchestra) but unfortunately not conducted by my favorite conductor(Arthur Nikisch or Arturo Toscanini are the best in my opinion). I’ve also attached a picture of me in Greece with my lovely cousin Elaina and my aunt Helena :)
